To pass the Georgia High School Graduation Test in math, a student must score 500, but to meet federal adequate yearly progress goals, a student must score 516. Schools can retest students, but that double standard has put some Georgia schools in the difficult position of asking high-school graduates who've passed the graduation standard to retake the test to help a school meet federal standards. "There's nothing there to help convince our students to go back and retake the test," said one administrator.
