Sales of 3-D-capable TV sets will hit 46 million units within the next four years, according to the latest forecast from GigaOM, a research firm. The 3-D movement has caught fire recently, with top makers Sony and Panasonic racing to get their versions out to the marketplace sometime next year.
Maryland-based Ciena said it was working on a deal to acquire a portion of Nortel's Metro Ethernet Networks, including its optical-networking and Ethernet properties. The purchase would be the third major sale of Nortel assets since the company filed for bankruptcy protection in January.
The lingering recession has led more than half of the respondents in a new Yankee Group survey to report at least a moderate scale-back in their cloud-computing plans.
