The California Public Employees' Retirement System, America's largest public pension fund, says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding a former board member being paid more than $50 million in fees for setting up investments that might result in hundreds of million of dollars in losses for taxpayers. The fund is launching a review process to examine the actions of several money managers who sat on the funds board from 1993 to 1995.
