Sacred Heart Basilica in Syracuse, N.Y., will soon sport a new roof made of slate and copper, the same materials used when the church was built a century ago. Church officials decided to replace the structure's leaking asphalt roof. The slate and copper roof will cost twice as much as replacing the roof with asphalt but will last much longer, experts say. The $1.2 million project started in May and is nearly completed.
