The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences awarded a $1.1 million grant to Texas-based PlastiPure to develop plastics that are free of chemicals such as bisphenol A. However, studies have shown that these additives at low levels do not pose risk to humans, according to the American Chemistry Council. PlastiPure CEO Mike Usey said, "This validates our technology, and it's also going to advance our efforts in offering safe, reliable plastics that don't threaten the health of our families."
