At-risk children who participated in a Pennsylvania preschool program demonstrated better kindergarten readiness and were less likely to be placed in special education in kindergarten than children who did not attend the program, according to results of a three-year study of 10,000 children funded by The Heinz Endowments. Pennsylvania's Pre-K Counts program had been in danger of being cut during recent state budget negotiations.
