The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed revisions to the Renewable Fuels Standard would be a setback to the biofuel and farming industry as well as slow U.S. efforts at energy independence, according to comments submitted by the American Farm Bureau Federation. The group contends that the agency's definition of "agricultural land" would create land-use regulations and record-keeping standards that will prohibit farmers from cultivating crops used in making biofuels or bar them from converting some areas to ethanol production. The EPA relies on "new and uncertain science to predict international land-use change," AFBF added.
