U.S. Bancorp, BB&T and Zions Bancorp are among the banks that have benefited from acquisitions of failed banks in deals aided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., analysts said. Acquiring failed banks can be more profitable than buying into healthy ones, the analysts explained. "If you can pick the winners in the regional bank space, there are real opportunities," said Fred Cannon, an analyst at KBW.
