Researchers at the University of South Florida will examine how to ensure that English-language learners are better represented in gifted-education programs. The Department of Education is providing a $1.6 million grant to fund REACH -- Recognizing Extraordinary Accomplishments of Children -- which will look at using nonverbal tests for assessing children for gifted programs and will train teachers in recognizing characteristics that might identify children as gifted.
