The Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Mass., is building a facility to better meet the needs of its changing population of students, many of whom have disabilities in addition to not being able to see. School officials say the facility, to be opened in 2011, will be more accessible to students in wheelchairs and will be designed with the latest technology. Perkins School alumni include Helen Keller; her mentor, Anne Sullivan; and Laura Bridgman, the first person who could not see and hear to learn language.
