Twitter may be a free service, but it costs British companies $2.3 billion annually in employee time and work resources, according to a TNS survey. About 57% of respondents said they used social networks for personal purposes at work, spending an average of 40 minutes per week on social sites. Consultants say social services have a range of business uses, so companies should set social-media policies, rather than banning the sites.
