A study involving 388 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients that focused on additional or secondary tumors showed that positron emission mammography had 80% specificity in identifying benign additional lesions, higher than the 66% specificity showed by MRI scans. Combining PEM and MRI scans also increased sensitivity in identifying additional lesions by 20% compared with using MRI alone, the study said.
