The leader of New York State United Teachers says there are too many charter schools in Buffalo, N.Y., and that the state should be more discerning when considering new ones or relicensing those in operation. Richard Iannuzzi said that Buffalo's public schools suffer financially as enrollment in the charter schools goes up. Charter-school enrollment in the Buffalo area exceeds 10% of total enrollment in traditional public schools. Iannuzzi said charter school should comprise between 5% and 8% of a district's enrollment.
