Businesses that offer employees rewards to promote wellness may run afoul of new privacy rules if they continue to ask questions about family genetic history. The surveys for group health insurance plans beginning after Dec. 7 can be brought into compliance by removing questions about family medical history if a financial reward is being offered through a wellness program, or the surveys can be split into two parts so the rewards do not apply to the part requesting genetic information.
