A UN security expert says al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the branch of the terrorist organization that operates in Yemen, represents the most dangerous al-Qaida organization. The reasons are for its ties to the Yemeni leadership, its proximity to Saudi Arabia and the tenacity of its attacks. UN Taliban-al-Qaida Sanctions Monitoring Committee coordinator Richard Barrett said the head al-Qaida group operating in the mountainous border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan keeps the closest ties with al-Qaida in Yemen, though other organizations such as al-Shabaab are more active.
