The financial crisis has sparked renewed interest in financial games as a tool for financial-literacy education. SIFMA developed The Stock Market Game in 1977, and an independent study found that the game boosts students' scores in financial literacy and mathematics. Melanie Mortimer, executive director of The Stock Market Game, said financial literacy is generally incorporated into classrooms through other subjects. "Normally, it's very difficult to try to impose an enrichment program on an already-tight classroom schedule," Mortimer said.
