An educator and instructional coach says schools often are forced to cover too much material, and the best way to improve student achievement is to select several high-priority standards, focus on them and teach them thoroughly. In this blog post, Elena Aguilar says that teachers in some districts -- including the one where she works in California -- have selected what she calls Power Standards that are the most important for students to master, building student learning around those concepts.
