Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing has graduated more than 1,000 nurse practitioners since its program began in 1977, and they play an important role in primary care in New York state, according to Theresa Grabo, director of graduate programs at Decker. Grabo said the 125,000 NPs practicing nationwide are a valuable solution to the shortage of family practice physicians.
