A bill on food safety reform might not be up for full Senate vote until next year, even after the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee gave its unanimous support for the proposal. The legislation, which is overshadowed by Congress' priority for health care reform, seeks to broaden the FDA's authority over food supply, including ordering recalls as well as improving measures to prevent food-borne outbreaks.
