Kraft Foods has appointed as directors Jean-Francois van Boxmeer, chief executive of Heineken since 2005, and Mackey McDonald, who was CEO of VF Corp. for 11 years and served on Hershey's board until 2007. The directors, who start Jan. 1, bring experience as leaders during major acquisitions, as Kraft moves forward with an attempted hostile takeover of Cadbury.
Ingredients, flavors and fragrances maker Symrise is adding a Consumer Health unit that will create functional ingredients and flavor solutions for supplements and health products. "By focusing on health and nutrition, Symrise is continuing to establish itself as a competent partner where health-oriented foods are concerned," said a company official.
Researchers say children who spend more time moving around have smaller waists and less body fat than their more sedentary peers. But they also say that limiting sedentary time will not by itself keep children from becoming overweight.
Kraft Foods has shuttered a confectionery factory in Brasov, Romania, eliminating more than 220 jobs. Most of the work, including production of Romanian chocolate brand Poiana, will go to its recently upgraded facility in Svoge, Bulgaria.
