House construction plummeted 6.8% in October, falling to an annual rate of 476,000 units and marking the weakest month since May. Building permits, an indicator of future construction volume, dropped 4%. In the broader economy, the Consumer Price Index increased 0.3% last month, the U.S. Labor Department said. Vehicle prices were the biggest factor, jumping the most in more than 28 years. Analysts attributed the increase to the end of "Cash for Clunkers."
