A judge has ruled that a first-grade student with autism in central Illinois must be allowed to bring his service dog to school. School district officials had opposed the animal's presence, questioning whether it was a true service animal comparable to dogs that assist people who cannot see. Similar cases involving service dogs for children with autism are under consideration in California and Pennsylvania. The Illinois district has not decided whether to appeal.
