An inattentive driver who pulled up to a pump in North Carolina didn't notice he was about to fill the tank of his Audi with an E85 blend, writes Bruce Siceloff, the News & Observer's "Road Worrier." E85 is only for flex-fuel vehicles whose fuel and emissions systems have been modified to resist damage from the higher ethanol blend, Siceloff notes; about 7 million of the 250 million vehicles in the U.S. are flex-fuel.
