Researchers are finding more evidence linking Crohn's disease to family genetics, according to Dr. Walter Koltun of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which has Familial Irritable Bowel Disease patient registry. Koltun said one frustrating aspect of Crohn's disease is that most medications only work about 60% to 70% of the time, and researchers have theorized it depends on which gene is mutated.
