Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko discussed the need for changes to the Westinghouse shield-building design for the AP1000 reactor that the agency requested because of safety concerns. The reactor has been selected for the Vogtle plant in Georgia. If Westinghouse proceeds with the current design, it will need to provide further information to validate the safety of components and the design choices, Jaczko said.
