Search titan Google debuted its first operating system aimed at making netbooks the ultimate device for Internet browsing and cloud-computing needs. But system limitations likely will thwart it as a serious Windows OS competitor, according to some industry analysts.
The White House, which recently adopted open-source software to run its Web site, is calling on developers to apply some of their efforts to "the public good" and come up with ways to work more effectively with federal agencies.
KnowledgeBank says a survey of 100 Washington-area tech firms found pay raises this year averaged 2.4%, which is down from 4.2% a year ago. The firm says the survey also showed IT companies plan to increase raises slightly in 2010, to an average of 3.2%.
The Dell'Oro Group reports revenue from Ethernet switches grew 10% to a total of $737 million last quarter thanks to increasing sales of 10 Gigabit switches. The firm says Cisco and Hewlett-Packard are dominating the market with a combined share of nearly 80%.
