An urban debate league in the Denver Public Schools is helping high-school students improve their college opportunities. Research shows urban debate at low-performing schools improves college readiness and high-school graduation rates. "In the DPS schools, there were only two or three leagues before we showed up," said Rico Munn, executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education and co-founder of the Denver Urban Debate League. "We wanted to bring debate back to the urban-school core."
