A report in the January 2010 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology said hormonal contraceptives go beyond preventing pregnancy to help treat menstruation disorders such as severe pain and heavy bleeding. The bulletin from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also said contraceptives that combine estrogen and progesterone reduce the risk of endometrial, ovarian and colorectal cancer.
