American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are among the carriers expected to be most affected by a Boeing Co. service bulletin urging engine overhauls for more than 220 wide-body 777 jets worldwide. Within weeks, Boeing plans to begin retrofitting the jets with a new thermal-protection system designed to correct a recurring problem with thrust reversers, including an incident last December at Tokyo Narita, in which a reverser broke off shortly after takeoff. No crashes have ever been blamed on the issue.
