A Boulder, Colo., developer has built the first of 12 homes in the SpringLeaf subdivision, the start of what will soon be one of the first net-zero energy neighborhoods in the U.S. The almost-4,000-square-foot houses will be powered by solar and geothermal energy and will produce more energy than the typical homeowner can use. The homes also use less lumber and are better insulated, reducing energy consumption and making use of recycled and sustainably sourced materials.
