Seventh-graders who recently moved to the US have started the school year at a newcomers school in North Carolina. The students are learning about American culture as well as English and how to talk with their multilingual peers.
A North Carolina school district is inviting students to try two new foods in cafeteria lines: a low-sodium General Tso's chicken and whole-grain biscuits. Overall, students said they enjoyed them and appreciated being asked their opinions.

The HHS Office of Inspector General found that almost half of the food companies it audited had failed to register with the FDA as part of a national preparedness and response plan. The HHS auditors warned the FDA to improve its record-keeping policies in light of the issue.
