Iowa State University scientist Jill Pruetz, studying chimpanzees in Senegal, discovered that the primates have an innate understanding of wildfires and how they spread -- a finding that could have evolutionary implications. "If chimps can understand and predict the movement of fire, then maybe that's the thing that allowed some of the very earliest bipedal apes to eventually be able to control fire," Pruetz said.
