Bad student behaviour and even violence in India's schools are being attributed to a high teacher-to-student ratio, with officials saying there are not enough teachers to appropriately monitor and discipline students. Teachers say one class can have as many as 100 students in it, even though the recommended teacher-student ratio is one for every 40 students. "It has become difficult for teachers to maintain discipline among students," said D K Tiwari, secretary for the Government Schools Teachers' Association.
