The government could free up an enormous amount of wireless-broadband spectrum by making a sweeping change in broadcast-television technology, CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Consumer Electronics Association said in a joint FCC filing. The groups urged the FCC to convert the stations' present platform to a system of multiple, low-power transmitters, a move that they argued would reduce interference and free up 100 to 180 MHz for mobile broadband.
