Ethanol will make up 17% of U.S. gasoline consumption by 2035, assuming that no changes are made to current regulations related to climate change, according to the Energy Information Administration. The allotment of petroleum-based fuels in U.S. energy demand for the next 25 years will fall from 84% to 78%, the EIA said. The U.S. is expected to adopt measures to combat global warming, which should spur greater demand for cleaner energy sources.
