Facebook's newest version of its privacy settings defaults status updates so that they are available to everyone, a "worrisome development that will likely cause a major shift in privacy level for most of Facebook's users, whether intentionally or inadvertently," according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Facebook maintains that the change is to make the settings simpler, though Joseph Tartakoff notes that the company does want users to share their updates more publicly.
