When the ball drops in Times Square tonight, it will have a little more sparkle -- and it will use less electricity than balls of yore. The New Year's ball, designed by Satellite Beach-based Lighting Science Group, will feature 32,256 light-emitting diodes and 300 crystal triangles to give it more sparkle. The 12-foot-wide ball is brighter and more energy-efficient than the older models.
