Electronic devices may be powered by kinetic energy, such as body movements, within the next five years, according to U.K. researchers. While the idea of harvesting kinetic energy isn't new, most devices can only make use of vibrations within a limited range of frequencies, while newer devices will be able to use a wider range of frequencies, the researchers note. "There's a huge amount of free, clean energy out there in the form of vibrations that just can't be tapped at the moment," says researcher Stephen Burrow.
