Four inner-city Maryland schools will become social-service centers thanks to a a four-year, $12 million grant from the New York nonprofit Atlantic Philanthropies. Students at the schools -- all located in a Baltimore redevelopment area -- will have access to new after-school enrichment programs as well as medical and counseling services. "It is really about trying to change the relationship of the school to the community," an executive with the nonprofit said.
