Elevance Renewable Sciences plans to build a $15 million biorefinery in Newton, Iowa, that will use plant oils and poultry fat to produce biofuels and specialty chemicals. "We are taking a waste stream of products ... and using it in a higher-value manner," said chief executive K'Lynne Johnson. The demonstration project, which received $2.5 million from the Energy Department, is also looking for financial aid from the state.
