"Right now, we are seeing tremendous opportunities in the REIT preferred market," says Jay Leupp, president of Grubb & Ellis Alesco Global Advisors. The preferred REIT shares aren't as well known as the common shares, but there is a lot to be said for them, he said. REIT preferred shares are paying dividends in the 8% to 10% range and the adviser believes those dividends are "extremely safe," Leupp said.
