The Department of Justice says an immunized partnership between American Airlines and British Airways could cause a 15% increase in airfares on some trans-Atlantic routes. Justice says the Transportation Department should approve the airlines' request for an antitrust waiver, but only with additional restrictions, including reduced landing slots and carve-outs on selected routes. "American looks forward to rebutting the points made by DOJ and expects that the U.S. Department of Transportation will approve our alliance in a timely manner," the airline responded in a statement after the announcement from Justice.
