The Aegis combat system, built by Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors in Moorestown, N.J., and fired from Navy destroyers and cruisers, would be used to take out the kind of short-range missiles that Iran recently test fired. The system shot down an errant satellite and 20 out of 24 missiles in tests, and its capability is said to be stable, according to Lockheed Martin officials.
