The Dutchess County Airport in New Hackensack, N.Y., ceased commercial operations in 2001 and was transformed into a general aviation airport. However, the three-runway airfield's steep decline in traffic may not bode well for its continued operations. In 1999, the airport boasted 135,000 takeoffs and landings, which dropped to 74,000 in 2008.
