Computer servers generate a lot of heat, especially when pooled together in data centers. Keeping them cool is a major expense, but at the University of Notre Dame, they've figured out a way to recycle the heat, using it to warm a conservatory that grows cactuses and other desert plants. Heat from the data center, located in a shipping container next door, is funneled through air ducts directly to the conservatory.
