Backed by a $3.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation, a Louisiana university is encouraging minority students with physical and learning disabilities to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Southern University's project, a partnership with Hunter College in New York, will seek participation among students from local high schools and colleges in semester-long enrichment programs, tutoring and mentoring, career days and field trips, such as an upcoming one to a NASA space shuttle launch in Florida.
