A Connecticut program is pairing students in advanced placement Spanish classes at one high school with Latino students from a nearby school to help the students gain a better understanding of each other's culture and language. Spanish teacher Christopher Poulos -- the state's 2007 teacher of the year -- created the program as part of his approach to foreign language teaching, which focuses on community service, cultural learning and immersion-based methods for language acquisition.
