Blacks, Asians and other minority populations might not see the full benefits from medical advances associated with stem cell research since most human embryonic stem cell lines are derived from people of European and Middle Eastern descent, according to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine. "New efforts to derive and disseminate additional stem cell lines need to focus on underrepresented populations," said the co-author of the study.
