An online social-networking site is helping children who are hospital patients find peer support and better understand their illnesses. Allowing patients to connect with fellow patients, friends and even teachers who can send schoolwork, the Upopolis site also features medical information written by professionals "in the language of a 13-year-old," said the site's founder. Launched in 2007 at Ontario's McMaster Children's Hospital, the site is now used by several Canadian hospitals for children.
