An analysis of FDG-PET studies from 2005 to 2007 conducted at Ohio State University Medical Center found that the average injection-to-scan time meets the protocol of PET scans starting at 75 minutes after FDG injection. However, 40% were not able to meet the plus or minus 10-minute time target, with 27% leaning toward longer times. The researchers said these inconsistencies in injection-to-scan times could make accurate quantification, particularly of response to therapy, difficult. Scheduling patients earlier in the day and giving patients ample time to cope with claustrophobia are among the study's recommendations.
